"On the afternoon of March 21, Clayton Pepper came home from his work at the Nashville Juvenile Court not feeling well. He rested for a period of time, went to church and taught his Wednesday night Bible class. At 8:30 p.m., he began to have strong pains across the upper chest. He phoned his doctor, who advised him to go to the hospital.
Approximately one hour after reaching the hospital, he suffered the attack. Doctors advised his wife that if he had not been at the hospital, he would not have survived. Tests showed that one artery was blocked. Surgery could not correct the problem. He remained in the hospital for two weeks. His recovery has been slow but steady. I know many faithful readers of the Church Growth magazine have an interest in brother Pepper's welfare. It is brother Pepper's desire to focus his life fully toward the Lord's work. He wants to serve in a capacity where he has the ability, training and experience. He has spent a lifetime attempting to reach the lost, and this is what he really wants to continue doing. Because of the extreme stressful work in the Nashville Juvenile Court, he will not be returning to continue to serve as a religious counselor. For this reason, brother Pepper has accepted an invitation to serve as director of follow-up ministry for Restoration Radio Network. This is a new position and an expanded role of the ministry. In order to do this, financial support is needed to fund this new work. Many lives have been blessed during the twenty six years of the publication of Church Growth magazine and other writings that he has done. I'm sure you have been blessed. As a result of the blessings received, it is hoped that you will have a part in the work which he loves most. Restoration Radio Network was founded in 1973 by Roy Beasley, who serves as director and speaker. It is under the oversight of the East Huntsville, Alabama, church. The program reaches states east of the Mississippi River and more than 73 nations and islands abroad. This includes 14 powerful shortwave overseas stations, plus others. The Gospel is preached more than 150 times a week, and programs range in length from five, fifteen and thirty minutes. This is done seven days per week. Brother Pepper's duties with Restoration Radio Network will include:
Brother Pepper's work will continue to be under the oversight of the Central Pike Church of Christ. This is his home congregation, where he presently serves as an elder. 1 Willie Cato's article was published in Church Growth 5 (October - December, 1990): 13.
