"Evangelism is not something we should put off until a more convenient time. My life has taught me that the convenient time may never come. ." |

"Anyone who tries their best to live the way God wants them to live and puts that into practice every day is constantly letting others see Jesus. Doors are opened to us constantly when people see how we act or react in every day situations.
We had a milkman who came into our kitchen three mornings a week. He and I would talk about the Lord often. He was already a good man; but after five years of these morning talks, both he and his wife became New Testament Christians, as they left a mainstream denomination. When my boys started school, I went to work for two days a week to help our financial situation. The husband and wife I worked for in a small grocery store were also good folks. Being in their presence for four years gave me many opportunities to show my Christianity. We had many religious conversations. Eventually one of my sons also began working there, and he could witness as a teen who was different from the others. These fine people left their denomination and were immersed into Christ, too. They are still a part of our congregation. When my boys began playing little league ball, I used to see a woman at all the games. I never got to meet her. She scared me a little because she had a coarse mouth. Years later, when her son met mine at school, she and her family became Christians. She told me then that she had been watching us at those games and wishing her family was like mine. You see, friendship evangelism was a part of our lives all the time. We just didn't know it. We can show the Lord in all we do: attending ball games, disciplining kids, talking to the milkman, or handling illness. Be what God wants you to be in all situations, and you'll be evangelizing. Evangelism is not something we should put off until a more convenient time. My life has taught me that the convenient time may never come. 1 Mickey Rizzuto's article was published in Church Growth 5 (July - September, 1990): 10.
