Week 1

  1. The instructor will review the class objectives, the major assignments for the students, and present the purpose of the course in making the student cognizant of what is available on the Internet in Christian Resources.

  2. The instructor will demonstrate logging on and off the Internet, discuss the vocabulary, and basic use of internet search resources, and discuss the importance of the Internet as a method for the church's outreach and teaching in the world. This would bring together the basic knowledge of how the web works and will be a start on how the church and minister can use the World Wide Web. The student will start to formulate a concept of how the computer and Internet can aid the church and ministry.
Week 2
  1. The instructor will discuss and demonstrate what ministries/churches have done individually, denominationally, and as part of Christianity in general in outreach and teaching on the Internet.

  2. The student will write a short paper on how to evaluate a ministry (couple pages).

  3. The student will evaluate at least five ministry web sites and write out what is considered 1) good, 2) not so good for each web site, 3) what the mission is on each.

  4. These evaluations will be mailed to the instructor along with week 2's video tape.
Week 3 Class discussion on the analyse of the good and not so good web sites, and what the various web sites have attempted to accomplish.

Week 4 Discussion of the various search techniques for simple and complex searches and the capabilities of some general search engines -- a how to search..

Week 5 Discussion of various meta search engines and data base directories. An explanation of the advantages of and disadvantages of the three major type of search engines . A continuation on how to use meta search engines, data base directories, and specialized search engines.

Week 6 The instructor will start to teach the basics of HTML (Hypertext Markup Language). The instructor will continue teaching the basics of HTML. Discuss the concept of an effective home page and its environs in supporting the various ministries of the church.

Week 7 The instructor will continue teaching the basics of HTML. The instructor will discuss bookmarks and the developing of a church/ministry internet library in spiritual resources, i.e., religious counseling, sermons, church history, church outreach, Bible classes, missions, sermons, etc

Week 8 Instruction on the requirements for footnoting internet materials according to Turabian (6th Ed.) and other style manuals and the problems involved. This will include the differences in the World Wide Web sites (http), ftp sites, user net sites and e-mail. Discussion on the development of web sites from student questions, site review, and their site development.

Week 9 Continuation of Week & materials.

Week 10 Further discussion of using the web in the ministry of the church and the minister. Discussion of the future of the web: audio, video, chat groups, and advanced HTML writing.

Week 11 The instructor will cover the need and desirability of "church managemnt software", church requirements and needs, types of software and computer requirements, installation and training, programing updates and special needs, and how the software can expand the ministries of the church.

Week 12 The instructor will demonstrate the installation and use of five different "church managemnt software" packages. The student will download (or if his church is using a "church managemnt software" packages) and explain the features and limitation of that software. How does a minister sell this type of software to the church?

Week 13 Church Management Software -- The implementation of Church Management Software and the problems involved.

Week 14 Web Hosting your church Internet Web site and the future of the web: audio, video,

Week 15 A look at the future: physical construction of the Church and Hardware requirements for a computer (intranet/internet) driven church.
