Week 5

I. Lesson Objectives

The instructor will discuss the various search techniques on the various search engines with the advantages and disadvantages of each, then demonstrate the effects of these techniques. The use of browsers and different type of searches (both simple and complex in both indexes and directories) would be covered.

  • 2. How to use 10 different search engines and what is the data base of each.
  • 3. How to conduct both and simple and complex search.

    VI. Required Assignments

    This is a rather long assignment and will probably take two week to do it.
    The assignments for Week 3 are brief. You do not need to search, only learn "How to Use".

    Review at least five search engines from each of the three following groups.

  • 1. What is the significance of each group.
  • 2. Read the "How to Use" on different search engines
  • 3. How is a search made -- both simple and complex
  • 4. Take some notes on how they are used.
  • 5. Pass on your findings on ONE site from each group to TWO members of the class
    and get their reactions to your evaluations. Let me know what you pass on
    and what the reactions are.
