Searches by -- "image:"
[BACK] [HOME] [NEXT]

AltaVista in both simple and advanced search engines allows for the search of "image:" (always lower case with AltaVista) that appear on web pages. A typical search would have the word "image" followed, without a space, the ":" and again without a space the word of the image to be searched.

For example, in a simple search, a search for the image of an "egg" would be as follows: enter "image:egg" in the search box to rank the results. Click on AltaVisa Simple Search to see the results. The results are 14,254 images of eggs of different sizes shapes and animation-- little egg, colored egg, big egg, a car being hatched from an egg, etc. Now try a search on "eggs". Only 4,191 because the search for "egg" also included all "eggs", but now the other way.

For example, in an advance search, a search for the image of an "egg" would be as follows: enter "image:egg" in the search box to rank the results and "image:egg" in the Boolean expression box. Click on AltaVisa Advance Search to see the results of 14,109. Slightly different and I do not know why (sounds like a programming difference).
