In my editorial of the first edition of Christian Bible Teacher, March
1956, I made statements that go well with this editorial for our new CBT
Classic edition. (That in quotes are now, forty-four years old!)
"At last, here is the magazine so badly needed for so long!" -- now on the
internet! "The task and purpose of this new" -- medium of publishing -- "is to
stimulate greater enthusiasm and to aid in promoting better efficiency in the
church's educational program. In this . . . we plan to provide the best
available information on the HOW OF TEACHING and to present workable plans on
DIRECTING AND BUILDING UP THE CHURCH TRAINING PROGRAM."
I cannot say it better to describe the excitement and purpose we have for
this new approach in bringing the best of twenty-five years to you — those
years when I served at founding editor of CBT.
Of course, many things have happened in the church's education efforts
since I "retired" some nineteen years ago. Some good, some not so good. For
my own work, the following article about Adult Continuing Christian Education
fits the good category. As for the "not so good," I have to name at the head
of the list the decline of Area-Wide Training For Service Series and the
number of full-time ministers of education in our brotherhood. My hope is
that the use of these articles will promote improvement in both of these
areas. There is always room to strengthen the good and help the not-so-good
to be better.
I hope that this new medium of communication will cause us to be more
committed to "an age of the restoration movement in which the educational
work of the local church is being recognized for its true values."
